As much as anyone, I hate being rejected for something I thought I was qualified for. But as I get older, I just tell myself not to let it be the last time I try for something like that. You never know when your chance might come.

Papa, I had to include the "side note." My experiences under your direction and mentoring are a major part of my story and my "success." I am so proud to have been one of your students and am grateful to have you as part of my story!

Chuck, I'm so glad you ended your piece above with the "side note." I was starting to have a guilty conscience until I read it. You have come a long ways, even with that initial disappointment. Your ride hasn't been anything to sneeze at since that first professional job. I'm always proud to know of each of your performances. And also proud that I gave you that first professional job.
Much love,

"Papa" Welton

It's so true that we take to heart the rejections or failures, but completely forget about the successes. I don't know why we focus on our shortcomings instead of using our successes as balast? That's certainly something for me to pay attention to and work on in the future.

Fascinating tale. Came across your post just after I did some online scrubbing and came across this post from CT. Must be the artistic muse at work today:

With any of our Pastors at SAC, up front, we can always expect a good chuckle or two...We have the JOY of the Lord is our hearts! We are soooo blessed by their examples.
