Jonathan Dough lives on the Island of Self. Every day he travels to Celebration City to sell his special brand of raised bread pastry. He meets and marries Jane and their life seems ideal. But something is missing, and soon his ideal life begins to fall apart. As is often the case, something drastic has to happen before Jonathan makes a change and discovers the secret to a life full of joy.
Based on the parable of The Wise and Foolish Builders, The Rescue of Jonathan Dough is a story about wisdom in the choices we make and discovering true meaning in life.
Parents and teachers will value the lessons this book teaches about:
- Making wise decisions
- The importance of family and community
- Dealing with loneliness and isolation
- Values and priorites
The story is great for children through adult readers and makes a great conversation starter for a Sunday school class, Bible study or family devotional.
Reviews:
“The Rescue of Jonathan Dough, the newest release by actor/director/author Chuck Neighbors, reminds us of the importance of community. In a witty, yet thought-provoking way, it will have you smiling, nodding in agreement, and is a timely reminder of how important it is to build on a good foundation. As an actor, Chuck Neighbors mastered the art of storytelling on stage. As a writer, he’s now doing the same on the page.”
Martha Bolton – Emmy nominated former staff writer for Bob Hope, Author/Playwright

With some clever storytelling and deft writing, Chuck Neighbors is able to engage and entice the readers through some elaborately illustrated page turning. This book fills the ‘hole’ in your home library nicely. Dough not miss it!”

“Chuck’s parable of a Parable is far more than a storybook–it’s a delightful punch to both head and heart.”
Jay McCarl – Author, Pastor, Speaker
“I really enjoyed The Rescue of Jonathan Dough. This is a very special story that touches on loneliness, isolation, love and praying for others. It has a very sweet message on the importance of community, but mostly it’s about finding joy in the knowledge that God loves you. It’s very heartwarming and has some clever humor; I even found myself giggling and getting a little teary eyed. I highly recommend this timely tale for young and old alike.”
Nicki Smith – Author of Dudley’s Big Day and Bittachon The Lonely Sloth
“Adults will enjoy reading The Rescue of Jonathan Dough with their older children. The delightfully illustrated book makes the parable of the ‘wise man who built his house on the rock’ and the ‘foolish man who built his house on the sand’ come alive in a way that is recognizable, and which leads to easy discussion. Chuck Neighbors has created a story about wisdom in the choices we make and discovering the true meaning of life that children can relate to, and parents can feel good about their reading together.”
